a child's view on grandparents

While I was driving Papaya home from swimming today, she started to make a comment about how her Opa like lots of butter, actually too much, on his toast. We then talked about how he also likes lots of peanut butter with his butter. Papaya commented that she thought that was okay when she was younger, but now that she is older, it's pretty gross. (Just a reminder she isn't quite 8!)

However, all that said, she reminded me that Opa's are good for some things, like rice with brown sugar and cinnamon, as well as cartoons! She has always thought that his lap is pretty comfortable for curling up on. Especially to watch those cartoons.

I asked her, "What about Oma's?"
"Well she is good for peppermints," came her quick reply.

special moments

this is pretty much the start of oma and opa's holiday with us
(back in the middle of march)
we were on the ferry to salt spring island
watching the ferry pull out of the harbour into the ocean
two of the kids hoped up in front of them
despite all the busyness around
the four managed a quite moment or two together
good memories
on a final note, did anyone else seem to notice that march quietly slid by?
it seemed it was gone before it started
maybe that is why april is confused and we find snow still in our yard!?

papaya's sweater

this is papaya's Christmas sweater
even though it wasn't ready for Christmas or even in our house
i had a little bit of difficulty finishing it off
this is an ella rae pattern and i used kathmandu aran yarn
i was happy with both until i needed to finish it
the pattern instructed to have a moss stitch border
which i made and re-made three times
once on the sweater it made the final project bulky and it wouldn't lay flat
i was really frustrated given the self-imposed time crunch
however, oma came to the rescue
i mailed the sweater to a big prairie city
once the border was pulled off, she used her crochet skills to give it a nice unbulky finished edge
thanks oma!
here is oma's finishing touches

do you?

boo-boo and oma were finishing lunch
when boo started talking about her belly button, she asked:
"oma do you have a belly button?"
"yes"
"can i see it?"
after a little hesitation "okay"
"can i put my finger in it?"
there was no answer to that except side splitting laughter
"well can i?"
"okay!"
after boo-boo checked out oma she informed us that her belly button had been destroyed, but then promptly changed her mind and said it was lost. after a while she felt it coming back, but oma wasn't allowed to get anywhere near it
